Seaside Heights board names Dr. Marko president, new members sworn in; president outlines HVAC referendum

The Seaside Heights Board of Education on Jan. 6 elected Dr. Marko as board president and Mr. Hershey as vice president during its annual reorganization meeting at Hugh J. Boyd Elementary School. The board accepted the certified results of the 2025 school election and Business Administrator/Board Secretary Tyler Verga administered the Oath of Office to newly elected members Lisa Franciosi and Jessica Richardson.
Board President Dr. Marko opened the meeting by congratulating the new members and announcing a scheduling change: regular board meetings will move from Mondays to Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. He also discussed a planned referendum to address long-term heating at Hugh J. Boyd School, saying the board must settle engineering and contractor choices if voters approve funding. "Considering the state will cover over $2 million, this referendum, if properly managed, will most likely be the net-cheapest option to heat this building for decades into the future," Dr. Marko said, and he invited the Seaside Heights Education Association and other community members to scrutinize design and construction decisions.
The board approved the certification of election results by roll call, recording yes votes by Dr. Marko, Mr. Hershey and Mr. Wright; the motion carried. The meeting also recorded the swearing-in of Franciosi and Richardson by Tyler Verga.
The board did not receive public comment during the allotted public comment period. The meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
