Seaside Park’s police chief told the council the department handled 946 calls for service during July, including 176 motor‑vehicle stops, 79 motor‑vehicle summonses, 1,166 parking summonses, two DWIs and 14 traffic accidents (four with injuries). The chief also noted two internal affairs investigations and detective‑bureau work with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Public safety recognition: During public comment, Alex Condos described a recent water rescue involving an off‑duty Seaside Park lifeguard who, Condos said, unlocked the storage box, retrieved a torpedo buoy and helped bring a girl safely ashore. "I just think that this individual be recognized," Condos said, asking the council to identify the lifeguard and invite them to a future meeting.
Community items: residents and council members announced local events and volunteer efforts. Mike Spatino described a recent butterfly release at the borough’s butterfly park (about 120 butterflies released; 66–70 attendees reported) and promoted a free stargazing event on Sept. 13 at Island Beach State Park presented by the Astronomical Society of Toms River area. Shirley Fessle questioned whether the borough planned to buy another fire truck and suggested shared services; council discussed beach badge revenues year‑to‑date (the mayor noted about $1.5 million so far) and craft‑show logistics.
Next steps: the council said it will attempt to identify and invite the lifeguard for recognition and will provide further budget and project updates at future meetings.
