The Metuchen Borough Council read and approved on first reading Ordinance 2025-14 on July 20, an amendment to the borough’s land-development code pertaining to affordable-housing and multifamily zones.
The ordinance text was read by the council clerk as an amendment to Chapter 110 (land development), Article 21 (affordable housing), Section 95.7 (new construction), item E (multifamily zones). Council moved to pass the ordinance on first reading, publish it according to law, and set a public hearing for Monday, August 25, 2025.
A roll-call vote was taken and the motion carried. Council President Dillia and council members recorded votes in favor; the clerk announced the ordinance would proceed to the published notice and the scheduled public hearing. No substantive debate on ordinance language was recorded during the meeting’s public portion.
Next steps: the ordinance will be published and a public hearing will be held August 25, 2025, where members of the public can speak to the proposal. Any substantive amendments or final adoption would occur in subsequent meetings following the public hearing.
