The Olivet City Council on Nov. 11 approved road closures for the Oli-Day Cheer Light Parade scheduled for Dec. 6, endorsing coordination between event organizers, the school and public safety officials.
Julie Harmon, chair of the Olivet Chamber of Commerce, presented the parade route and staging plan and said the event would include town activities beginning at about 4:30 p.m. "Oli-Day Cheer Light Parade" organizers were directed to coordinate with Olivet High School advisor Brityn Rabakon, Fire Chief John Collins, DPW Director Jerry Staggs and Police Chief Shawn Garcia on barricades and staging, Mayor Laura Barlond-Maas said.
Chamber President Jamie Kita told the council the Oli‑Ween event earlier drew approximately 150 participants and that the post office won a decorating contest; she noted last year's homecoming parade had 27 entrants and current participation was not yet known. Commissioner Joseph Davis moved approval of the road-closure plan; Commissioner Joe Hoffdahl supported the motion, which carried 7-0.
The council asked organizers to confirm logistics with the school and public-safety staff; DPW also indicated plans to install holiday lights before the parade. No permit fees or special conditions were recorded in the minutes. The council’s action allows event preparation to proceed pending those operational details.
