Olivet schools add Zeroeyes detection software; SRO praised for partnership

School and city officials briefed the Olivet City Council on upgrades to school security and the role of the School Resource Officer on Aug. 12.
Police Chief Shawn Garcia praised SRO Marco Hernandez and said Hernandez has been "instrumental in getting the contract for the SRO up and running." Terry Sedlar, Olivet Community School Director of Operations, told the council the district has deployed Zeroeyes software that detects brandished weapons and notifies a monitoring center that, in turn, notifies 911, the SRO, the superintendent and Sedlar. Sedlar also said the school upgraded cameras and access control systems so the technologies work together to tighten security; he said the system is fully integrated pending staff training.
Eaton County IT staff who reviewed the system told Commissioner Jim Mott and others that the software should improve response times, and Sedlar said he is satisfied with the partnership between the schools and city law enforcement.
No additional city action was recorded at the meeting beyond the update and praise for the SRO partnership.
