Charlotte Community Library names Olivet appointee, offers immediate services

Representatives of the Charlotte Community Library told the Olivet City Council the library millage passed, that Olivet’s district appointee takes office immediately to complete a term through 2026, and the library plans story time in the park, a possible book drop and exchange hours for Olivet residents.
Ann Goeman, assistant director of the Charlotte Community Library, told the Olivet City Council on Aug. 12 that the district’s recent millage had passed and that the library board has appointed an Olivet representative who will serve immediately through the remainder of a 2026 term.
"We were excited to see that the library millage had passed," Goeman said, and she provided a template for swearing in the new appointee. Eunice Borrelli, president of the Library Board, said the seven-member board consists of appointees from participating municipalities and that Olivet’s appointee will join the board as a voting member and serve on the building and grounds committee.
Borrelli noted the board will meet monthly and highlighted the library’s plans in the community, including a 130th anniversary celebration in November and outreach to Olivet: the library hopes to host story time and crafts in the park in September and October, is exploring a book-drop in Olivet for returns, and is considering an "exchange hour" when a librarian could bring items on hold to town.
Goeman said the library is developing a five-year strategic plan and invited input from Olivet residents; Borrelli added that the board will provide training for appointees.
The council did not take formal action on the library’s proposals during the meeting; Goeman and Borrelli said the appointee is effective immediately and will fill the vacancy left by Charlotte through the remainder of the 2026 term.
