The Mantorville City Council voted 5–0 on April 20 to condemn the Mantorville Brewing building at 101 5th Street East after a court-ordered inspection found multiple areas of the structure in disrepair.
Councilmember Jerrod Kappers moved to condemn the building and Councilmember Lynnette Nash seconded; the motion carried with five ayes and no nays. The council also directed City Clerk-Treasurer Gretchen Lohrbach to review the property owner’s historical water-bill payments and consult the city attorney about the next legal steps and enforcement options.
The council discussed the results of a court-ordered search warrant that identified items and conditions inside the building that contributed to the condemnation decision. The minutes record the council’s direction for the clerk to investigate the owner’s prior water-bill payment history as part of determining administrative remedies and follow-up.
Mayor Jeff Ingalls presided over the discussion and closure of the Local Board of Appeal and Equalization earlier in the meeting before the regular meeting began.
The condemnation vote is recorded in the minutes as a formal council action; the clerk will coordinate with legal counsel on the timeline and required notices to the property owner.
