Council approves utility and public works purchases, including emergency wastewater pump

The council also approved an emergency purchase of one raw sewage pump from Kerr Pump at a cost of $124,033 after staff described an operational need. Council recorded the emergency purchase as charged to the Wastewater Capital Plan Machinery & Equipment – New budget.
Other approvals included a $180,736 purchase of a 2025 Trackless MT7 for the Department of Public Works (procured via MiDeal pricing), a $3,641 contract with Valley Insulating Co. to insulate boiler hot water lines and tank at the wastewater plant, and a $36,495 purchase of 153 wooden utility poles for the Electric Division.
Councilmember John DiCostanzo said he was “excited about the wastewater pumps coming in,” and the minutes record unanimous roll-call approval for the related motions. The council also approved a $4,700 contract with Dixon Engineering to drain, clean and inspect the Century Water Tower.
These purchases were charged to specific departmental capital or maintenance budgets as recorded in the meeting minutes.
