Board approves chaperones, home instruction and personnel changes; two trustees dissent on chaperone approvals

At its March 19 meeting the Shrewsbury Borough School District Board of Education approved several personnel recommendations brought forward by the Personnel Committee chair, Mr. Galvin. The approved items include chaperone lists for the Washington, D.C. trip (staff paid $250 per night, one chaperone at $200 per day), chaperones for a 6th grade PEEC trip and an NYC trip, and home instruction assignments for student #7077 at a rate of $45 per hour (10 hours per week, not to exceed $1,800 total).
The board also approved the placement of Student #7111 at Rugby School at $425.20 per day beginning on or about May 1, 2025, and extended medical leave for staff member Lee Ann Arnts through April 25, 2025. The home instruction assignment lists Leigh Trillhaase providing five subject areas at $45/hour for a combined total of 10 hours per week during the stated period.
The minutes record dissent on the chaperone approvals: Ms. McCullough voted No to item 8.1 (the Washington, D.C. chaperone list) and Ms. Moore voted No to 8.1 and 8.4 (the Washington, D.C. and NYC trip chaperone lists). Despite those dissents, the motion to approve the personnel items passed with seven members voting in favor and two members absent.
What happens next: administration will implement the approved home instruction and placements and process chaperone assignments and travel arrangements per board authorization.
