Shrewsbury board approves personnel changes, adopts policies and signs off on curriculum items

At its Feb. 19 meeting, the Shrewsbury Borough School District Board of Education approved multiple personnel recommendations, policy adoptions and curriculum items as part of the consent agenda.

Personnel actions approved included appointing Alexa King as a substitute for morning gym duty; extending Fiona Potter as a long-term leave replacement through Feb. 28, 2025; accepting the retirement of Robin Kulovitz effective June 30, 2025; appointing Christine Morgan as Track and Field coach for a stipend of $2,527; and approving Cheryl Peterson and Kelly Schlosser to split a prorated Garden Club stipend of $950 for the second half of the 2024–25 school year. These personnel items were presented by the Personnel Committee and approved by the board.

The Policy Committee presented Policy Alert 234 for second reading and adoption. Policies and regulations listed for adoption included P 5111 (Eligibility of Resident/Nonresident Students), P 5460 (High School Graduation), P 5512 (Harassment, Intimidation, or Bullying), P 5516 and R 5516 (Use of Electronic Communication Devices), P & R 7441 (Electronic Surveillance in School Buildings and On School Grounds), P 8500 (Food Services) and several others. The board approved the recommended second readings and adoptions as listed.

Curriculum and instruction items approved included professional development authorizations (NJAMLE attendance and Wilson Reading System training) and approval of middle school mathematics program documents for 2025–26, including advanced mathematics criteria, mid-year movement rubric and appeal/waiver forms. The board also approved field trips for Grade 7 and Grade 1 to Sandy Hook and a Drama Club trip to New York City; transportation and ticket costs were noted and, where indicated, funded from the Student Activities fund.

All consent agenda items were approved on a voice vote with eight members voting yes and one absent.
