The Shrewsbury Borough School District Board of Education on Jan. 15 approved the district’s draft calendar for the 2025–26 school year, reviewed two HIB reports for January (both recorded as non‑confirmed) and approved a slate of professional development requests and policy changes recommended by the Curriculum & Instruction and Policy Committees.
Superintendent Mr. MacConnell presented upcoming dates and events, including early dismissals, school closures for professional development and Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a spelling bee, assemblies and other events. The minutes list two HIB reports for January 2025 and record both as non‑confirmed.
The Curriculum & Instruction section presented professional development requests for a number of staff members to attend conferences and trainings in locations including Toms River, Princeton, Deal, Monroe, and Red Bank, and noted several attendees’ registrations funded by an FSE grant (account #20‑001‑100‑610‑01‑0) for AI workshops.
The Policy Committee presented recommended revisions and new policies, which the board approved. Items listed in the minutes include revisions to policies on student residency (P 5111), high school graduation requirements (P 5460), harassment/intimidation/bullying (P 5512), use of electronic communication devices and related regulations (P/R 5516, R 5516), electronic surveillance (P & R 7441), food services (P 8500) and cooperation with law enforcement (P & R 9320), among others.
The board also accepted a donation of $1,040 from the Shrewsbury Parent Teacher Group, Inc. to fund a Spanish assembly and authorized submission of the Paraprofessional Statement of Assurance to the County Office for 2024–25.
Next steps: Approved policies and the draft calendar will be reflected in district materials and posted per board procedure; professional development travel will proceed per approved funding and grant restrictions.
