Board members told the meeting they are seeking a quicker path to resolve funding for two vans/buses after learning the Board of Finance will not take final action until a later meeting.
Norine told the board that a prior $100,000 budget error had been corrected and that the Board of Finance placed the van purchase request on its next agenda, leaving a month’s delay. "We're getting way too close to keep these contract people ... they put it on their next agenda, but that's a month from the last time we would have got on their agenda," she said, noting schedule pressures with vendors. Board members asked staff to look at alternatives, including buying one vehicle and leasing a second and checking whether lawsuit settlement funds might be used.
Ryan, finance staff, said he and other administrators were exploring options and would examine costs, leasing availability and the steps required to bring a recommendation back to the finance subcommittee and then the Board of Education for formal action. The board discussed sequencing: selecting a vehicle, having the finance committee review, and presenting to the Board of Finance for approval or transfer authority depending on the funding approach.
No formal decision was taken at the meeting; the finance subcommittee will meet to evaluate options and, if viable, bring a recommendation to the Board of Education and to the Board of Finance for final approval.
