Referendum passes and board advances $6.39M tentative budget; HVAC upgrades planned for Hugh J. Boyd

The Seaside Heights Board of Education reported preliminary March 10 referendum results indicating passage by a roughly 15% margin to authorize borrowing for upgrades to the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system at Hugh J. Boyd Elementary.
Dr. Marko, board president, said final referendum results will be certified on April 14 and that passage would allow the district to borrow funds for building upgrades and make it eligible for up to $1.5 million in state funding. He cautioned that construction planning is a lengthy process and promised to release HVAC calculations, detailed design and construction drawings in coming months.
On business matters, the board approved a tentative budget for the 2026–27 school year. The proposed budget shows total expenditures of $6,392,006, with general-fund expenditures of $5,322,792 and special-revenue spending of $1,069,214. Anticipated revenues total $1,592,679, leaving taxes to be raised at $4,799,327. The board included a $212,020 adjustment for increased health-benefit costs and authorized the Business Administrator/Board Secretary to post the tentative budget to the district website; a public hearing on the budget is scheduled for April 30 at 5:30 p.m. at Hugh J. Boyd Elementary School.
The tentative budget was presented by Tyler Verga, the Business Administrator/Board Secretary, and the motion to adopt the tentative budget for public hearing passed on roll call with Ms. Franciosi, Ms. Richardson and Dr. Marko voting yes.
Next steps: final referendum results will be made official on April 14; the board will hold the public hearing on April 30 before submitting a final budget for county-level review.
