Florence approves pickleball nets, dispatcher training; in executive session directs attorney to deny Tabor claim and accepts park employee resignation

The Florence board on July 1 approved several parks and public-safety operational measures and took two executive-session actions.
Park Director Mark Hester recommended the purchase of three Onis Pro Net-Wheeled pickleball nets. The board approved BSN Sports’ low quote of $6,724.97 over a competing quote from Richardson Athletics. The motion passed unanimously.
On a recommendation from Police Chief Brad Burns, the board authorized sending Dispatcher Joanna (Jojo) Karras to Officer Involved Shootings and Critical Incidents dispatch training July 14–15, 2025, at the Pearl Police Department. The city will pay the $300 registration fee and related costs as allowed by state law; the motion carried unanimously.
During executive session the board authorized City Attorney Bobby Lingold to draft a letter to C-Spire and MSI, Inc. stating that the city is not liable for the Tabor Claim; the vote was unanimous. Also in executive session, and on Park Director Mark Hester’s recommendation, the board accepted the resignation of park employee Randy Myers effective June 30, 2025. The board returned to regular session at 7:16 p.m. and adjourned at 7:17 p.m.
The board also asked City Engineer Tim Parker to consult with Horne CPA to determine whether the Jerry’s Fish House project could be funded through ARPA, but no funding decision was made at the meeting.
