Florence board appoints city officials, approves budget amendment and makes mayor a full-time position

The Florence Mayor and Board on July 1 approved a package of personnel appointments, adopted a budget amendment, and voted to make the mayor’s position full-time.
Mayor Trey Gunn recommended several appointments that the board confirmed: Alderman Brian Grantham as Mayor Pro-Tem (Grantham abstained from that vote); Attorney Bobby Lingold as city attorney and prosecutor; Engineering Service and Tim Parker as city engineer; Linda Wigley as city clerk; Windham & Lacey, PLLC as municipal auditors; Brad Burns as police chief; Melissa McCue as court clerk; Kevin Stewart as municipal judge; Witney Adams as judge pro-tem; and Greg Hemphill as indigent attorney. Most motions carried unanimously and were recorded in the minutes.
City Clerk Linda Wigley presented and the board approved FYE 09/30/2025 Budget Amendment #1. The board also authorized surplusing a list of non-functioning office equipment and directed the city clerk to dispose of the items as deemed necessary.
In a separate personnel and compensation decision, the board voted to make the position of mayor a full-time role beginning Aug. 1, 2025, at an annual salary of $70,000. That motion carried unanimously.
The board approved the claims docket and the minutes of June 17, 2025; the minutes approval vote recorded two abstentions by Aldermen Kyle Martin and Brent Sistrunk. The board also voted to consider an executive session later in the meeting to discuss a Park Department personnel matter and possible pending litigation.
