Florence board approves emergency water repairs, pump rebuilds and signs off on road project documents

The Florence Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Aug. 5 approved a series of infrastructure actions, including emergency water repairs, pump rebuilds, an overlay agreement authorization and a stop-work order.
A motion by Alderman John Banks, seconded by Alderman Brent Sistrunk, approved payment of invoice M25017-F for $6,434.15 to address a leaking gate valve at Church Street and Main Street; minutes state the repair was deemed an emergency to restore water service to the community.
Separately, the board approved payment of $12,243.07 to Cooper Electric Motor & Pump Sales & Service to rebuild two submersible pumps at the lift station near Jerry's Fish House on Hwy. 49; the minutes record the rebuild as a sole-source item. The board also authorized Mayor Gunn to sign Eagle Post Road Overlay Supplemental Agreement 01 (Project No. STP-7073-00(001)) on recommendation of City Engineer Tim Parker.
On Tim Parker's recommendation, the board authorized Mayor Gunn to sign a stop-work order for Thompson Brothers Drilling, Inc., effective July 23, 2025. All motions in this set of infrastructure items were recorded as carried unanimously.
