Hackberry board approves Student Council mission and revises FMLA advisory policy; multiple advisory policies tabled

At the start of the Sept. 9 meeting the Student Council President and Vice President presented a mission statement the council had developed; the board approved the mission by a 3‑0 vote after moving the item to the start of the meeting.
The board also reviewed and approved revisions to Advisory Policy GCCC‑EC (Professional/Support Staff Leaves of Absence Without Pay) to align with the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993. Key revisions included an explicit job restoration clause specifying employees must be restored to their original or equivalent positions, replacement of the phrase "most employees" with the more precise "original or equivalent positions," and removal of wording that conflicted with federal guidance on use of accrued benefits during FMLA leave. The revision motion passed 3‑0.
Board members moved to table several advisory policy blocks for a subsequent meeting, including Policies 792–800, 801–807, 809–818, and 909–914; each block was tabled by unanimous recorded votes. First reading of Advisory Policies 915–916 was opened but no final action beyond first reading was recorded.
What happens next: the policies that were tabled will be returned to a future agenda for further consideration, and administration will incorporate FMLA language updates into district advisory materials.
