The Ridgetop Board of Aldermen on Jan. 20 unanimously adopted Ordinance 2026-101, amending Ordinance 2019-103 to modify the city’s Natural Gas Infrastructure Fee System.
Alderman Senft moved for adoption and Alderman Martin seconded; the motion carried with all members voting aye.
City Attorney Russell Freeman told the council Tennessee Energy Acquisition Corporation supplied a no-cost legal opinion that permitted the city to enter a gas supply agreement within a five-day window. Freeman said staff signed and transmitted the agreement to the company and that the arrangement is intended to reduce the first-of-month gas price passed through to customers.
City Recorder Kelly Rider said a resolution adopted in November had authorized the city to enter into the agreement. The attorney described the agreement and opinion as requiring specialized legal review, which Tennessee Energy Acquisition provided at no cost.
The council did not discuss specific projected rate changes at the Jan. 20 session; Freeman characterized the agreement as designed to lower monthly gas prices charged to customers but did not provide a numerical estimate at the meeting.
Ordinance 2026-101 was introduced and voted on under new business and carried unanimously.
