Florence Mayor and Board of Aldermen approve vehicle financing, infrastructure pay requests and a fee change

The Florence Mayor and Board of Aldermen met Oct. 7, 2025, at city hall and approved a series of routine purchases, project payments and a change to building permit and inspection fees.
The board voted unanimously to accept Community Bank's 4.00% lease-purchase financing quote for new police vehicles after Chief Brad Burns recommended financing from among four bids. Alderman Mason Herrin moved the motion, which Alderman Grantham seconded, and the board later authorized Mayor Trey Gunn to execute the Lease Purchase Agreement pending review by City Attorney Bobby Lingold.
City Engineer Tim Parker presented pay requests and a contract change order tied to ongoing Eagle Post Road and Hwy. 49 sanitary sewer work. The board approved Pay Request #2 to A.J. Construction for $60,116.03 for an overlay project and approved Pay Request #1 to Thornton Construction Company, Inc. for $131,230.53 along with Contract Change Order No. 1 for $60,298.67 for the Hwy. 49 Eagle Post Road sanitary sewer additions (Phase 3). All motions passed unanimously.
Public-works and parks items passed on voice votes with no dissent. Street Director/Public Works David Myers recommended awarding a $22,750 contract to Delta Constructors, Inc. for water main improvements at White Street, Main Street and Seventh Day Road. Park Director Mark Hester recommended replacing the community center flooring with Bowers Painting Inc. for $23,900 and purchasing a 2024 Ford F-150 Crew Cab from Pine Belt Auto Group for $46,155; both measures were approved unanimously. Community Development Director Joel Sims recommended and the board approved Southern Air Services, LLC's $14,300 quote to replace the board-room HVAC system.
The board set two public hearings for Nov. 4, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.: one to consider a variance request for 609 Southern Oaks Drive (owner Russell Hickey Jr.) and one to consider technical corrections to the city's Zoning Ordinances.
On the legal/administrative side, the board adopted a board order amending building permit and inspection fees as presented by City Attorney Bobby Lingold, approved the claims docket and approved the Sept. 16, 2025 minutes. Mayor Trey Gunn adjourned the meeting at 6:55 p.m.
