Atlantic Beach council advances fee changes, investment and legal contract; tables procurement and inspection ordinances

At its Jan. 5 meeting the Atlantic Beach Town Council approved several measures on first reading, authorized a short-term investment and approved engaging municipal legal services, while tabling two other ordinances for revision.
Council approved the first reading of Ordinance 1-2026 to raise community-center rental fees by 10 percent; Town Manager Adrian Jones described the change as an increase of $10 to weekday daily rates (from $75 to $85) and a comparable weekend increase (from $100 to $110) and said the ordinance will be updated with full figures before the second reading. On another item, Council approved first reading of Ordinance 2-2026 to establish attendance requirements for council members tied to pay.
The council voted to invest $10,000 in the South Carolina Local Government Investment Pool, which Jones said yields about 4.5% annual interest and offers monthly interest payments and liquidity. By roll call, the motion to invest was approved.
Separately, council authorized the town manager to enter an agreement with L. Best Moody Consulting to provide municipal legal services; Leah Moody, present at the meeting, was welcomed as part of that arrangement.
Council tabled Ordinance 13-2025 (an amendment to the business-license inspections and audits provision) and Ordinance 18-2025 (purchasing and procurement procedures) to allow staff and attorneys to refine language before the matters return to the dais.
The council also approved routine minutes from the Dec. 8, 2025 meeting and adopted the 2026 Town Council meeting schedule.
