A swearing-in ceremony for Joseph Cooper took place during the Atlantic Beach Town Council meeting on Dec. 8.
William Booker administered the oath as Cooper repeated the pledge: "I do solemnly swear ... to exercise the duties of the office ... to preserve the peace ... and defend the Constitution of this State and of the United States." Booker concluded the ceremony by saying, "As police chief of the Town of Atlantic Beach." Cooper responded, "So help me God." Both thanked the room afterward.
Council members and the town manager publicly welcomed Chief Cooper during the meeting. There were no formal motions or votes tied to the swearing-in during the public session; the ceremony was recorded under ceremonial matters at the start of the agenda.
