Atlantic Beach council tables proposed business-inspection and procurement ordinances

The Atlantic Beach Town Council on Dec. 8 unanimously voted to table two pending ordinances while staff and council finalize financial and procedural details.

At the meeting Mayor Pro Tem John David introduced Ordinance 13-2025, a proposed amendment to Ordinance 1-22 to add life-safety inspections to the town's business license inspection and audit provisions. Councilwoman Carla Taylor moved to table the first reading; Councilman Edward Campbell seconded and the motion passed on a roll-call vote with Campbell, Taylor and Mayor Pro Tem David voting yes.

Council members then considered Ordinance 18-2025, the town's purchasing and procurement procedures, scheduled for a second reading. Taylor said the item has been on recent agendas but that "we are trying to just finalize some numbers and make sure that this ordinance is in the best interest of all parties," and moved to table. The council seconded and tabled the item by unanimous roll call.

Both tablings were procedural: Council members said they want the ordinances to reflect finalized cost figures and to protect the interests of the town and stakeholders before advancing to further readings or adoption. No amendments to either ordinance were proposed during the meeting, and no public comment was recorded on those items.

Council actions recorded at the meeting show motions to table Ordinance 13-2025 and Ordinance 18-2025 carried with votes of Campbell, Taylor and David in favor. The council did not set a date to reintroduce either ordinance during the session and directed staff to continue finalizing the numbers and language.
