Krotz Springs aldermen adopt 8.52-mill 2024 tax rate, approve routine financial measures

Krotz Springs aldermen unanimously adopted a millage resolution levied on the 2024 tax roll at 8.52 mills during their regular meeting held Aug. 9, 2024, according to the official proceedings filed Aug. 13, 2024. The motion to adopt the resolution was made by Alderman Craig Burghdoff and seconded by Alderman Nyssa Godwin; a roll-call vote recorded affirmative votes from Burghdoff, Larry Martinez, Cindy Stelly, Nyssa Godwin and Keith Ardoin.
The board also approved routine governance items without opposition: a motion by Alderman Keith Ardoin (seconded by Nyssa Godwin) approved the minutes of the July 9, 2024 meeting; a motion by Craig Burghdoff (seconded by Larry Martinez) authorized payment of all outstanding bills; and a motion by Cindy Stelly (seconded by Craig Burghdoff) accepted the Financial Statements and Reconciliation Worksheet.
Police Chief Susie Snyder provided a brief departmental update, saying "all was good in town and the building is almost complete." She also reported that officer Nolan Noel was involved in a pursuit that damaged the unit; officials are arranging repairs. Maintenance Supervisor Nina Snyder said operations were "all is good" and announced, "We will be flushing fire hydrants for the next three days from 9pm to 1am." These operational notices may affect residents during the evening hours of the planned flushing period.
Under other business, Mayor Carroll Snyder told the board that grass-violation letters have been mailed and that the parish is expected within the next couple of weeks to demolish a house on Front Street and Todd Avenue. The board announced local Second Harvest food distribution dates for Aug. 20 and 21. With those items complete, a motion by Cindy Stelly, seconded by Nyssa Godwin, adjourned the meeting.
