Plympton selectmen approve Eagle Scout project, award Town House contract and authorize $8,500 in opioid settlement spending

The Town of Plympton Board of Selectmen on March 9 approved several routine and project actions, including an Eagle Scout renovation at Holt Field, a notice of intent to award a Town House front entrance contract to the low bidder, and authorization of $8,500 in opioid settlement funds for Dennett School programs.

Dana Smith, chair of the Board of Selectmen, moved to approve an Eagle Scout project proposed in a letter from Ross MacPherson, Committee Chair of Troop 4480, to perform interior renovations on the Holt Field snack shack. Nathaniel Sides seconded the motion; the board voted 2-0 to approve the project. The record indicates the Recreation Commission had previously approved the project.

Town Administrator Elizabeth Dennehy told the board the Community Preservation Committee-funded Town House front entrance project received a low bid from DDC Construction, Inc. and that architect Habeed & Associates recommended proceeding with the low bidder after checking references. The board voted 2-0 to issue a Notice of Intent to Award to DDC Construction Inc., with award and contract execution contingent on Town Counselreview of contract documents.

Dennehy also led discussion on allocating opioid settlement funds. The board authorized $8,500 to be used for the Dennett School Resource Officer and Dennett staff to purchase LEAD materials, to support a Radio Project, and to buy cruiser decals. Dana Smith moved to authorize the expenditure; Nathaniel Sides seconded. The motion passed 2-0.

The board agreed to draft a new use agreement for the Old Town House after the Plympton Historical Society reorganized and indicated it will be more active in the building. Dana Smith moved to draft a new agreement for counsel review and named Nathaniel Sides as the liaison; the motion passed 2-0.

The board appointed Gabriela Falconieri to the Community Preservation Committee for the term February 23, 2026, through June 30, 2029, to fill a member-at-large vacancy; the motion passed 2-0. Warrants totaling $54,613.38 were recorded. The board also authorized the Town Property Committee to pursue grant funding opportunities for the proposed fire station and noted a ribbon-cutting invitation for a new Main Street business, Asher's Sandbox.

The board approved the Open Session minutes for Jan. 12 and Feb. 2, 2026, by a 2-0 vote. The meeting moved to executive session later in the agenda to discuss strategy for negotiations with non-union personnel and the board adjourned after the executive session.

Why this matters: The actions advance local capital work at the Town House, support youth and school-safety programs funded from opioid settlements, and authorize grant-seeking for a proposed fire station.
