Council members said they met with residents and consulted the borough attorney and offered to draft a resolution outlining the borough’s objections and to attend Orangetown planning or board meetings. The mayor and council also discussed attending hearings to voice downstream environmental and traffic concerns and to press for additional environmental review if needed.
Residents and Environmental Commission representatives raised specific concerns: changes in impervious coverage, tree removal and downstream flooding effects tied to prior developments nearby. Peter Ido, chair of a neighboring environmental commission, said his town has experienced repeated flooding episodes and urged neighboring municipalities to coordinate on impervious-coverage impacts.
Council asked the borough attorney to prepare a draft resolution reflecting the objections residents raised and to coordinate with Councilman Boyce and the residents who initiated contact; council said it will consider the resolution at a future meeting and may send a delegation to Orangetown hearings.
