Old Tappan swears in new patrol officer, council adopts appointment resolution

The Borough of Old Tappan on Feb. 3 adopted a resolution appointing Dillan fazu as a patrol officer in the borough police department, effective Feb. 4, 2025. The acting council president read the appointment resolution and the council recorded affirmative roll-call votes before Mayor Thomas Gallagher administered the oath.

The resolution, introduced by the police committee and accepted by the mayor and council, directs that certified copies be forwarded to the police chief and the newly appointed patrol officer. The acting council president read the language of the resolution, the motion received a second and the council answered “yes” on the recorded roll call.

Mayor Thomas Gallagher then administered the oath to Dillan fazu, who repeated the prescribed pledge to uphold the constitutions of the United States and New Jersey and to “faithfully, impartially and justly perform all the duties of the office of patrol officer.” The event drew applause from family members and meeting attendees.

The council recorded the appointment as a formal action on the evening’s consent and appointment calendar. No further discussion was recorded on the appointment during the meeting. The council did not record a named mover for the resolution in the public transcript and the minutes show the motion was seconded prior to the roll call.
