North Royalton Council adopts charter and police/fire updates, approves recreation fee change and routine resolutions

At its May 6 meeting, North Royalton City Council approved a package of ordinances and consent resolutions covering charter language, police/fire code cleanup, recreation board requirements, and routine recognitions.
On third reading, Council adopted Ordinance 26-68 amending Article I of the city charter and Ordinance 26-69 removing obsolete appointment language from Article VII (police and fire). Both measures passed on unanimous roll calls (Yeas: Coleman, Petrusky, Wojslaw, Gorjanc, Green, Cyngier).
Council also moved to suspend the three-reading rule and adopted Ordinance 26-82 at first reading; the ordinance amends Chapter 280 (Recreation Board) to change recognized city sports program compliance requirements. That move passed on a roll call with Mayor Marnecheck voting with Councilmembers (Yeas: Marnecheck, Coleman, Petrusky, Wojslaw, Gorjanc, Green, Cyngier).
The consent agenda included two routine but consequential items: Resolution 26-84, authorizing the mayor and the wastewater superintendent to advertise for bids for the 2026 Wastewater Treatment Plants A & B improvements (declared an emergency), and Resolution 26-83 recognizing Professional Municipal Clerks Week (May 3-9, 2026). Those were adopted as part of the consent agenda; roll-call adoption was unanimous among members recorded present.
Ordinance 26-76 (establishing salaries for the President and members of Council) was placed on third reading for future consideration, and Ordinance 26-86 (fee changes in the Fire Services Code for CPR/First Aid courses) was placed on second reading and referred to the Safety Committee.
Council also announced a Safety Fair scheduled for May 16 at 10 a.m. at City Hall.
