Howell — The Howell City Council on Monday unanimously approved three administrative actions: giving St. Joseph Catholic Church 30 days' notice before the city discontinues cemetery services at Mt. Olivet Cemetery; appointing Jamie Spezia as Deputy Treasurer; and adopting the City of Howell Earned Sick Time Policy.
The motion to give St. Joseph Catholic Church thirty days' notice, moved by Councilmember Alex Clos and seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Jacob Schlittler, passed 7-0. Mayor Robert Ellis said the decision reflected concerns about the city's liability and the costs of providing cemetery services. Councilmember Jan Lobur said church leadership was grateful for the city's assistance.
On personnel matters, the council unanimously appointed Jamie Spezia as Deputy Treasurer (motion by Erin Britten; second by Luke Wilson) and adopted the Earned Sick Time Policy (motion by Jan Lobur; second by Alex Clos), each passing 7-0.
