Harrison Township board deadlocks twice on president vote; decision deferred

Nominations for board president produced 4–4 votes for both John Cavanaugh and Shannon Williams. Both nominations failed and the board said it will hold the vote at its next meeting.
At its Nov. 18, 2025 regular meeting, the Harrison Township Board of Education failed to elect a board president after two tied roll-call votes. Alexis Rubino nominated John Cavanaugh and Janette Coslop nominated Shannon Williams; each nominee received four votes and four no votes, so neither motion carried.
Board Secretary Christopher DeSanto explained the nominations procedure before votes were taken. The roll call for John Cavanaugh showed No votes from Jennifer Bowen, Walter Bright, Janette Coslop and Shannon Williams and Yes votes from Todd Baron, Tim Bast, John Cavanaugh and Alexis Rubino. The subsequent roll call for Shannon Williams recorded No votes from Todd Baron, Tim Bast, John Cavanaugh and Alexis Rubino and Yes votes from Jennifer Bowen, Walter Bright, Janette Coslop and Shannon Williams.
The board announced the election for president will be held at the next board meeting. The deadlock leaves the board without a permanent president until members reach a majority decision.
