Atlantic Beach council adopts ordinance banning dunes camping and setting beach curfew

The Atlantic Beach Town Council on March 2, 2026 unanimously adopted Ordinance No. 3-2026 amending local code to outlaw camping or sleeping in dune areas and establishing curfew hours to provide enforceable grounds for criminal trespass when appropriate.
Town Manager Adrian Jones said the amendment clarifies where and when being in the dunes is prohibited and noted that without a curfew it is difficult to pursue criminal trespass charges. Jones and council members discussed aligning hours with neighboring beaches and legal limits on enforcement; a 9:00 p.m. to sunrise timeframe was cited during the discussion.
Councilman Edward Campbell moved to approve the ordinance, which Councilwoman Jacqueline Gore seconded; the measure passed unanimously.
