Wardsville advances veterans memorial construction, declines donor plaque and accepts Liberty Tree gift

Don Welch, president of the planning and zoning committee, said work to dig and pour concrete for the memorial would start the following day and that he preferred not to have his name listed on any recognition for donors. Clerk Libby Chipman told the board she would send personal thank-you cards to donors rather than creating a public plaque.
Also during the meeting, the board reviewed and approved a Cole County permit application for an addition at 2118 Route M; Chipman issued the village permit and forwarded the information to Cole County Public Works. Dan Bernskoetter of the Cole County 250th Celebration Committee offered a 15-gallon oak Liberty Tree as a community gift; the board accepted and asked maintenance staff to pick it up and plant it near the veterans memorial.
