Brian introduced Dixon and administered the oath, which included a pledge to serve Cheraw’s officers and residents with ‘‘respect, dignity, compassion, courage and integrity.’’ Council members applauded after the ceremony.
Members of the town recognized retired Chief Marvin Murray for his years of service and noted that Murray assisted with the ceremonial baton passing. The swearing-in was brief and was followed immediately by the council’s scheduled business and public-comment period.
The council did not take separate action related to the fire department during the meeting aside from the ceremonial oath.
The council then proceeded to public comment and the rest of the agenda.
