Veterans liaison asks Central Pacolet council for endorsement and volunteers

Rob Henry, veterans liaison program coordinator at the Dr. Benjamin EMA Family Resource Center, told the Central Pacolet Town Council on April 6 that his three-person program helps mainly older Vietnam-era veterans obtain records, navigate VA benefits and secure basic home and vehicle repairs. “What we are doing over there is we are helping our veterans … retrieve records, get lined up for services through the VA and through other veteran service organizations,” Henry said.

Henry said the center’s work ranges from records retrieval and housing assistance to helping veterans access substance‑use treatment, and that many veterans simply do not know the service exists. He asked the council for an official endorsement and “a signal boost” so the program’s outreach will reach more residents, and requested volunteers to assist with light home repairs that otherwise could cost veterans hundreds of dollars. He said the program is led by director Jerry Rice and supported by a community navigator, Kayla, and two other veteran liaisons.

The council acknowledged the presentation and several members thanked Henry. Councilmember [name withheld in transcript] asked staff to add the veterans event to the town website and promotional channels; the administrator said he would work with staff to do that. No formal vote or funding request was recorded during the presentation.

Why it matters: Henry described a small, locally run resource that fills gaps for older veterans who face obstacles to benefits and home maintenance. Council endorsement and outreach could increase program awareness and volunteer support ahead of planned fellowship dinners and other activities the center hosts.
