Wardsville trustees discuss flagpole and veterans memorial, seek donations before committing funds

The Village of Wardsville’s board discussed a proposal to add a flagpole and veterans memorial at Village Hall during new business on March 4.
Village Clerk Libby Chipman said Wardsville was the only local municipality without an American flag at the village hall and proposed a memorial similar to one in Taos. Trustee Rachel Busche moved to pursue installation, ideally in time for the Fourth of July celebration.
Maintenance Director Gary Frank said a company that manufactured the Taos memorial estimated the memorial at about $6,500 and Chipman said a flagpole was quoted at roughly $3,300. Trustee Rick Taube suggested a not-to-exceed guideline of $10,000 but warned costs could exceed that amount. Trustee Don Welch offered to donate time to assist with the project.
Trustees agreed to attempt to raise donations from businesses and deferred final approval and any spending authorization to a future meeting. The minutes do not record a second or a vote on Busche's motion at the March 4 meeting.
