The Village of Wardsville Board of Trustees agreed April 1 to hold the dedication for a planned Veterans Memorial on July 5, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., noting the date was chosen because July 4 falls on a Saturday. The trustees briefly stepped outside during the meeting to examine potential sites and will pick a final location at a future meeting.
Village Clerk Libby Chipman told trustees that donations to the Memorial fund are "over halfway" toward the goal and that several small local businesses have pledged support. Trustees said they will continue fundraising and finalize logistics at the May meeting.
Maintenance Director Gary Frank said the memorial project is "falling in line" with the expected timeline but that the Board still needs to decide on placement. Brian Schrimpf said he will arrange for a banner for the July event.
The Board did not take a formal vote recorded as a motion to set the date in the minutes, but the group reached a consensus to hold the dedication on July 5 and scheduled additional discussion for the May meeting. The trustees adjourned at 7:04 p.m.
