Wardsville board approves five-year audit contract with Decker & Pace

The Village of Wardsville Board of Trustees unanimously approved a five-year audit contract with Decker & Pace at the March 4 regular meeting.
Village Clerk Libby Chipman said she had difficulty finding a CPA firm willing to perform audits only every five years. After reviewing options, she recommended a five-year contract with Decker & Pace, which will perform the audits remotely. Chipman told trustees Decker & Pace would also perform the 2024 audit and that its proposed charge for that work was "over $5,000 less" than what Graves and Associates had proposed.
Trustee Rick Taube moved to approve the five-year contract; Trustee Rachel Busche seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.
Chipman said the firm’s annual fee schedule will increase over the life of the contract; she did not provide a full year-by-year fee table during the meeting. The board did not record additional conditions or a final dollar figure for each year in the meeting minutes; the clerk recommended the five-year arrangement to reduce cost compared with the prior estimate.
