Hasbrouck Heights council approves DPW union agreement, appointments and introduces stormwater ordinance

At its July 16 meeting the Hasbrouck Heights Mayor and Council approved a labor memorandum with DPW employees and handled a batch of routine appointments and agenda items.
Council approved Resolution No. 144, a Memorandum of Understanding with Local 108 RWDSU/UFCW covering the DPW unit. Councilwoman Charlotte Sodora moved the resolution and Councilman Michael Sickels seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
The council confirmed appointments read aloud by Acting Borough Clerk Anne Michelle Sery. The meeting appointed Mahmoud Elnahal to the Hasbrouck Heights Junior Fire Squad and approved a resolution appointing Christopher Cunningham as Electrical Sub Code Official; both motions were approved unanimously. The council also accepted the resignation of Manuel Fernandez from the Electrical Sub Code Official position.
The council approved a consent agenda listing Resolutions 131–140, 142 and 143 covering payroll, licensing, vendor contracts, engineering service awards and event agreements. A bills resolution authorizing payment of $4,176,504.98 in claims was approved during the meeting. The council introduced Ordinance No. 2558 to amend Chapter 234 (Stormwater Control) and set a public hearing for Aug. 20, 2024.
During the public-comment period resident Linda Romano raised concerns about overnight parking and an early-morning disturbance July 6; Mayor Kistner said tickets are being issued under the borough ordinance. The meeting adjourned after a short work session.
