Police report: 47 incidents in month; DOJ audit requirement noted

Chief of Police Kyle Lamparter presented the department's security report, covering March 17 through April 21, 2025, and said officers responded to 47 incidents or calls for service during that period. Lamparter told the council the Department of Justice will audit police municipalities every two years and will request monthly statistics on use-of-force and pursuits to be included in municipal reports.
Lamparter also said the town will add a volunteer constable to both insurance policies on Tuesday. He reported that speeding e-bikes have been observed on the Highway 17 sidewalk and said the town has ordered soft-shoulder signs for Ocean View and Beach Drive; temporary stakes and cones will be removed once signage is in place.
No public input on the security report is recorded in the minutes. The report and the DOJ audit requirement were filed with the meeting materials; the minutes note attachments are available for review and that monthly reporting will be required should the DOJ request it.
