Hasbrouck Heights council approves promotions, bills and consent agenda; introduces dump truck ordinance

At its Sept. 24 meeting the Hasbrouck Heights council approved police promotions and firefighter appointments, authorized payment of $425,312.01 in claims, approved a consent agenda of routine licenses and transfers, and introduced Ordinance No. 2565, a $96,000 capital appropriation for a new dump truck from the borough's PSE&G contribution reserve.
The Hasbrouck Heights Mayor and Council on Sept. 24 approved a series of personnel moves, payments and routine licenses and introduced a capital ordinance for a new dump truck.
Acting Borough Clerk Michelle Sery read appointment resolutions that the council approved without dissent, including promotions within the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department and the appointment of Francesca Grano as police matron. Sergeant Domenick D'Amico was sworn in as lieutenant; Nicholas Brunetti, Joseph Armeli and Michael DeSimone were sworn in as sergeants; and firefighters Robert Stauffer and Thomas Stauffer were sworn in.
Council approved payment of claims totaling $425,312.01 after the Chief Financial Officer certified available funds. Councilman Thomas Meli moved to approve the bills; Councilman Robert Bing seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The consent agenda — including a probationary police listing (Res. No. 179), raffle licenses for two local organizations (Res. No. 185), authorization to transfer 2023 appropriation reserves (Res. No. 186), dealer licenses for vehicle sales (Res. No. 187) and certain interfund transfers (Res. No. 188) — was approved on a motion from Councilman Robert Bing, seconded by Councilwoman Charlotte Sodora.
The council also discussed, for future action, Resolution No. 184 proposing updates to the council by‑laws. Borough Attorney Mark DiPisa said the by‑laws were reviewed and revised to remove obsolete language and that any changes would be placed on a future agenda after the required notice and discussion period.
Ordinance No. 2565 was introduced by title; the capital ordinance would appropriate $96,000 for acquisition of a new dump truck to be funded from the borough's PSE&G contribution reserve and was passed on first reading with a public hearing scheduled for Oct. 8, 2024.
Other notes: Council received updates that the public works salt shed and certain road pre‑construction meetings are progressing, Board of Health members proposed raising the dog license fee from $12 to $15, and the Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department averages about 60 calls per month. Town Day is scheduled for Sept. 28, 2024 (rain date Oct. 5). The council adjourned after closing public comment.
