At the Nov. 1 meeting of the Harvey Cedars Board of Commissioners, residents raised safety and planning questions and presented a donation to borough officials.
Frederic Schragger of 7 E. Salem Avenue told commissioners he "likes the idea of the firepit" and asked whether the borough had reviewed the plans with the attorney and insurance carriers given potential liability. Mayor John Imperiale replied that the plans have been reviewed and that the borough is covered.
Schragger later asked for an update on a CAFRA permit submitted for Lange Avenue; Commissioner Paul Rice said he believes approval is unlikely. Schragger also pressed officials about the size of transfers into legal and engineering fees; Mayor Imperiale said a bulk of the legal fees reflected a $20,000 borough contribution "to fight the offshore wind" and referenced other unexpected legal fees incurred during the year.
Jim Fritz of 1 W. 82nd Street presented the borough with a $7,000 check for purchase of aerators and asked the board about recent language in the Harvey Cedars Community Currents that mentioned changing residential zoning and businesses. Mayor Imperiale said the newsletter will be revised and compared to recent Land Use Board cases, and noted the borough is looking at items such as outdoor dining and signage.
Commissioner Joseph Gieger reported the borough is anticipating a bid packet from the borough engineer for an anticipated water-main project, street drains and bulkhead replacement. Mayor Imperiale congratulated Kristen Christofora on completing Land Use Board Secretary certification and reminded residents about an upcoming wine-tasting event (Nov. 2) and a Salute Our Veterans event (Nov. 8). He added that a new Harvey Cedars police officer will be sworn in at the next meeting.
No formal action was taken in response to the public comments during the meeting; questions were answered by mayor and commissioners and are recorded in the meeting minutes.
