Briarcliffe Acres election commission swears in appointee, unanimously elects new chair

On April 1, 2025, the Briarcliffe Acres Municipal Election Commission met at Town Hall. Town Clerk Jennifer B. Newbold called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., confirmed a quorum and administered the oath of office to Commissioner-Appointee Cindy Huggins, who will serve a six-year term from 2025 to 2031.
Following the oath, Huggins moved and Commissioner Dave Steed seconded a motion to elect Dawn Johnsen-Potter as chair of the commission. The vote was unanimous; Potter accepted the position.
The commission and Clerk Newbold discussed preparations and the timeline for the Nov. 4, 2025 general election. They confirmed three council seats will be on the ballot—two four-year seats and one two-year unexpired term—and explored opportunities to recruit resident poll workers. Chair Dawn Johnsen-Potter agreed to make recruitment contacts. Newbold said she will produce new handbooks and follow up with Horry County Elections officials about commissioner training.
No new business or public input was recorded. The clerk noted items to add to the next agenda, the commission scheduled its next meeting for July 15 at 9:30 a.m., and adjourned at 11:34 a.m.
