Community development director previews Board of Supervisors hearings, parks meetings and CIP work session

Jamie Sherry, director of community development for Goochland County, delivered the director’s report at the Jan. 16 Planning Commission meeting and listed multiple items and community meetings coming before the Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission.
Sherry said the Jan. 7 Board of Supervisors meeting was rescheduled to Jan. 21 because of weather. She said three public hearings will be on the rescheduled agenda: a countywide industrial sign ordinance amendment that would change how signs are regulated in industrial parks; a District 2 rezoning application by Dennis Holmes seeking a zoning change and waivers for turn-lane and road standards; and a District 1 conditional use permit request from Lester and Kimberly Robbins for a detached accessory family housing unit.
Looking ahead to the Feb. 20 Planning Commission meeting, Sherry said Strickland Manufacturing will request a conditional use amendment to add a building, Columbia Gas Transmission will request a conceptual-plan amendment to add an office building, and Trent Properties will seek an exception to the subdivision ordinance to add an access drive.
Sherry also flagged two public engagement opportunities: a parks-and-recreation master-plan kickoff meeting at the Goochland Sports Complex (time announced at the meeting) and a Markel Eagle rezoning community meeting on Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. at the Chinese Baptist Church on Broad Street Road. She said the Planning Commission expects a mid‑March work session followed by a regular meeting to review the county capital improvement plan, at which commissioners may vote to forward the CIP to the Board of Supervisors as part of the budget process.
"As she said, I'm Jamie Sherry, director of community development," Sherry told the commission at the start of her report, framing the schedule and public‑meeting dates members should expect.
What happens next: Staff will post agendas and materials for the Jan. 21 Board of Supervisors meeting and the Feb. 20 Planning Commission meeting; commissioners and the public were given dates and locations for the community meetings.
