County clerk: Santa Cruz County turnout 50.37% in June 2 primary, well above state average

Santa Cruz County Clerk Trisha Weber told the Board of Supervisors on June 30 that turnout in the June 2, 2026 statewide primary reached 50.37% in the county, outpacing the state average turnout of 40.8%.
Weber said more than 40,000 voters returned vote-by-mail ballots at voting locations, drop boxes and by mail on election day and described the intensive processing work that followed: signature verification, physical ballot extraction and tabulation, audits and manual tallies. "Our incredible team of permanent and extra staff met this daunting volume with smiles," Weber said, and noted that the county completed required audits within the state's June 15 deadline.
Weber thanked about 400 community members who staffed voting locations and ballot retrieval teams, county departments that provided facilities support, and the families of election staff for extended work hours. She said the office will pivot to November preparations and is planning voter-education outreach.
The county also accepted the statement-of-vote attachment inserted into the agenda packet for item 31 and filed it as additional materials for the board record.
