Douglasville to extend AECOM design agreement through 2029 for Fairburn Road corridor

The Transportation Committee considered Amendment No. 1 to the master design engineering services agreement with AECOM Technical Services, Inc. for the Fairburn Road Corridor Improvement Project (PI 19210).
Project manager Matthew Johnson told council the original agreement began in May 2024 and was set to expire in May 2026. The proposed amendment extends the agreement term through Dec. 31, 2029 to align design services with a construction let date anticipated in fall 2029. Johnson said the extension does not change the scope and carries no fee.
Council members asked whether the expired term created any issues and Johnson said the extension retains the firm’s services in case revisions are needed between now and the start of construction. The council indicated comfort placing the extension on the consent agenda for formal action at the July 6 meeting.
Why it matters: Keeping design consultants under contract through anticipated construction lets helps avoid procurement delays and preserves project continuity for a corridor project expected to reach construction later in the decade.
