Residents urge funding for golf course, decry recycling center appearance and question development impacts

At the July 24 meeting public comment covered a range of local concerns.

Several residents — including Gordon Marx and Joe Supnet — spoke in support of the ordinance funding the borough golf course. Other residents, notably Carol Wirtz and Sue Walther, raised concerns that the appearance of the recycling center is unpleasant and urged improvements. Margaret Campbell spoke in support of golf-course funding and against installing parking pay stations, while also suggesting investment in events and roads.

Johnathan Duff questioned impacts of the proposed 100 West Main Street development and asked about affordable-housing obligations; borough Attorney Wendy Quiroga said the adjusted thirty-one-unit obligation would not be met, as recorded in the public-comment period. Resident Nicole Poko raised concerns about parking, pay stations and notification about parking proposals. Susan Kreitz raised concerns about earth and debris in the street. In the second public-comment period, Michael Gronsky questioned details of the memorandum of understanding with the Jersey Off Road Bicycling Association; George Wirtz urged better lighting and paint in the tunnel; Ildiko Meijer and others flagged Department of Public Works areas needing review.

Council members acknowledged the comments and in some cases directed staff to follow up; Mayor Michele Lee said she would attend a Planning Board meeting to follow up on development questions and noted county involvement for a potential future event.
