Several residents told the Highland Park Borough Council on Sept. 16 that a business identified as New York Auto Depot at 205 Oakridge Avenue has long disturbed the Dartmouth Street neighborhood with late-night activity, vehicles stored on public streets for days, and operational issues that may violate borough registration or zoning rules.
A Dartmouth Street resident said the business has been present since 2019, has not registered with the borough as far as the speaker knows, and operates repair and sales activities from the same location. “They have destroyed our quality of life on Dartmouth Street,” the resident said, describing race cars and loud activity at all hours and claiming multiple unregistered uses in the building (chamofer service, parts sales, paint shop).
Another resident, Morphia, said vehicles remain parked for days across several nearby blocks, that the business had taken photos that included a resident’s home and license plates on its website, and that her son was struck by a vehicle connected with the business in a late-night maneuver. Speakers asked borough staff to investigate registration, zoning, noise, parking enforcement and fumes from painting operations.
Mayor Foster said the chief and Council member George would look into the complaint and report back. No formal enforcement action or findings were announced at the meeting.
