Council recognizes local author, honors EMT kidney donor and notes holiday events

Washington Township Council used part of its Dec. 3 meeting to recognize community members and publicize holiday events.
Mayor DellaPia and council members presented a certificate to local author Linny Mack, who described her Cape May series (Changing Tides and Chasing Stars) and noted a third book, Choosing You, is scheduled for release March 17, 2026. The council also recognized Washington Township EMT Lieutenant Michael Ellershaw for donating a kidney to resident Katie Brown; Brown spoke about her end‑stage renal disease, dialysis and need for a transplant, and thanked Ellershaw and emergency‑services personnel. Police Chief Cindy Grudzinski commended Ellershaw’s act.
Councilman Brown introduced Washington Township High School Student Representative Gianna Caveng and commended student singer Maddie Tucke on the National Anthem. Members used the reports portion of the meeting to praise the high‑school football team for its state championship, publicize a celebration at Washington Lake Park and note local charitable activities including Gobble Up for Hunger and Toys for Tots drives.
These recognitions were ceremonial and no formal council action was recorded related to them.
