Board confirms recount-adjusted election results and appoints Ramos as vice president

The Millstone Township Board of Education reported the results of a contested local school-board election and then filled a short-term vice presidential vacancy.
An administrator read recount-adjusted tallies after a member of the public requested a recount: "Mrs Riley gained one vote; Mrs Kiny gained two votes; Mrs Reese gained two votes; Mrs Seros gained a vote; Mr Phylis gained two votes; and Mr O'Donnell gained one vote," the board recording officer said. The recount produced only small numerical changes to previously posted results.
The board also announced the resignation of Mrs. Riley. To avoid a vacancy longer than 30 days, the board nominated and voted to appoint Mrs. Ramos to handle vice-presidential duties for the remainder of the year. After nominations were closed, the board voted to confirm Mrs. Ramos; the motion was declared carried.
Board members then moved, seconded and approved routine consent items, including acceptance of a report presented at the meeting and multiple personnel and operations items, all by roll-call votes noted in the record.
The board scheduled its reorganization meeting for Jan. 6, 2025, and noted the incoming superintendent, James McCartney, will begin in January.
