Washington Township Director of Public Works Frank Altamuro outlined seasonal collection details for residents at the Dec. 3 council meeting.
Altamuro said loose‑leaf collection is continuing "in full force through December" and will run through the end of April, weather permitting; the township will operate one to two trucks for leaf pickup during that period. Yard waste collection began Dec. 1 and will continue through Feb. 28; Altamuro instructed residents that "you must schedule yard waste collection two business days prior to your collection day" and that "only items inside your green can will be collected." He advised residents to call Suburban Disposal at 973‑227‑7020 and leave their trash day/zone, or to use the township website link to schedule.
For residents who buy live Christmas trees, Altamuro said Public Works will collect trees at the curb the day after a household's regular trash day during January, weather permitting. The director emphasized following the green‑can rule for yard waste and leaving scheduling information on the phone message so crews can properly assign pickups.
These service notes are operational guidance from the township’s public‑works office; residents with questions were directed to Suburban Disposal or the township website for scheduling details.
