Millville board accepts SSDS and HIB reports, approves corrective action plans for chronic absenteeism

The Millville Board of Education accepted student-safety reports and approved corrective action plans at its Oct. 27 meeting.
Assistant Superintendent Philip Schaffer presented the Student Safety Data System (SSDS) 2024–2025 Period 2 submission, which covers January 1–June 30, 2025. Mrs. McKensie presented School Self-Assessments under the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act; the Oct. 27 HIB report listed 22 investigations concluded, and the Sept. 22 HIB report showed two investigations affirmed. The board also accepted a suspension report for September 2025 showing 44 in-school suspensions and 51 out-of-school suspensions.
During public review of the agenda, community member Tamera Davis questioned the SSDS figures and asked specifically about possession amounts; she urged greater parent involvement, saying that without parental engagement 'students don't care.' The board did not provide a possessions breakdown on the public record at the Oct. 27 meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Matthew Mazzoni said the district has completed BIMAS screening for about 1,500 students and thanked staff for their work with the screenings. The board approved Corrective Action Plans required under N.J.A.C. 6A:32-8.6 for schools with 10% or more chronically absent students.
The SSDS submission, HIB reports and corrective action plans were approved as part of the administration consent agenda and passed on a roll call vote.
